President Donald Trump arrived at the Lincoln Memorial on Monday to announce the completion of repairs to the Reflecting Pool. The visit served as his final public appearance before the 2026 midterm elections, which take place on Tuesday.
The Interior Department spent several months working on the project. During his remarks, the President stated that the pool is now better and more beautiful than it has ever been. He repeated his claim that vandalism played a role in the damage that necessitated the repairs.
Trump traveled from the White House for the event. He had spent the previous weeks on the campaign trail, attending nearly 30 rallies to secure control of Congress.
In his closing message to voters, the President called the upcoming vote the most important midterm in his lifetime. He described the Democratic slate of candidates as the most extreme and dangerous in American history.
Polls indicate that the high cost of living is the top concern for voters this cycle. Trump did not address that specific issue in his speech. Instead, he highlighted what he described as a strong and resilient U.S. economy.
The President acknowledged that the party in power has historically lost seats in midterm elections. Republicans currently hold a thin majority in Congress. Final polls are currently pointing to a significant success for Democrats in the 2026 race.
