ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Oct. 28 (Gazette). The office of Congressman Nick Begich (R-AK) has returned more than $3 million to Alaskan residents through constituent casework since he assumed his seat in January 2025. The funds represent a mix of federal benefits, tax refunds, and other payments that had been delayed or stalled by government agencies.

The casework team has focused on specific categories of federal assistance. These include securing earned benefits for veterans, resolving Social Security disputes for senior citizens, addressing passport delays, and handling matters with the Internal Revenue Service. Begich stated that helping residents interact with the federal government is a core responsibility of a congressional office.

Residents cited specific financial and personal gains from the office’s intervention. Moses J., an Anchorage resident, reported receiving nearly $12,000 in returned funds. He described the assistance as a tremendous help and expressed gratitude to Begich and his staff for seeing the case through to resolution.

Other constituents highlighted non-monetary resolutions. Sean S. said his family spent two years unsuccessfully trying to finalize name changes for adopted children. Begich’s office stepped in to resolve the matter, ending a long process for the family. Audra G. reported that her family’s mail delivery stopped without explanation. The office addressed the issue, and mail service has since resumed.

Veterans have also benefited from the casework efforts. Phillip W. stated that he struggled to resolve an issue with military retirement pay despite correcting paperwork with the Department of Veterans Affairs and making numerous calls. Begich’s team acted quickly in his first week in office and helped address the problem. Shane P. noted that the office helped him resolve a long-standing Social Security issue that he could not fix on his own.

Begich emphasized the team’s commitment to cutting through bureaucratic red tape. He said, “I’m proud to announce that our constituent services team has now returned over $3 million to Alaskans who were waiting on benefits, tax refunds, and other federal payments.” He added that the office aims to deliver results for every Alaskan who seeks assistance.

Alaskans seeking help with a federal agency can contact the office through the website Begich.House.gov. The site hosts a casework request form for residents to submit their inquiries.
