Raygine Glentasia Evans faces charges for a September 22 crash in Hyde Park that left a teenager dead and his sister critically injured. The Los Angeles Police Department scheduled a briefing for Thursday to share more information about her arrest.
Police allege Evans was driving a blue 2025 Nissan Sentra eastbound on 60th Street when she ignored a stop sign at 10th Avenue. She was traveling at 80 miles per hour before hitting 16-year-old Hernan Martinez and his sister, Vicky Martinez. Hernan died at the scene, while Vicky was hospitalized with severe injuries.
Evans was taken into custody in Los Angeles around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. She is currently booked in the county jail awaiting $3.255 million in bail. Records show she has been cited nine times for reckless driving and running stop signs. Officers also noted she is wanted in connection with multiple robberies, including ten incidents in Los Angeles.
Eliseo Martinez, the brothers' brother, told reporters that their mother managed to pull Vicky away from the vehicle. He said Vicky suffered a fractured pelvis and needed surgery. The mother was not struck by the car. Witnesses described seeing Hernan's body lodged in the Sentra's windshield as the car continued to move.
Detective Ryan Moreno of the LAPD’s South Traffic Division described the scene after the initial impact. "The disgusting part of this is what happens afterward," Moreno said. "Hernan ends up placed on top of the vehicle as this suspect continues at a high rate of speed and starts to kind of swerve their car back and forth, attempting to dislodge a body from the top of the car."
Evans kept driving until the sedan collided with a parked vehicle. She and her passenger, identified as Joannae Shavon Rosby, exited the Sentra and fled on foot. Before leaving the area, the two women retrieved items from the car and were later picked up by someone driving a red Honda Accord.
