Transportation Security Administration agents at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport removed a set of three claw-like blades from a passenger's carry-on luggage on Wednesday. The items, which officials described as resembling a combination of Wolverine claws and Freddy Krueger blades, were identified during a routine security screening.
The process began when officer Douglas Linn reviewed X-ray images of the bag. He identified three distinct blades and noticed unique claw-like features that warranted further inspection. Linn stated that he was surprised by the object's appearance and noted he had not encountered such an item in his two years with the agency.
Following the X-ray alert, property search officer Dennis Oishi conducted a physical search of the bag. He confirmed the presence of the prohibited items and removed them from the luggage. The passenger admitted to having forgotten the items in the bag and voluntarily surrendered them at the checkpoint.
Supervisory officer Ann Rhoades described the find as one of the most unusual objects she has seen in her seven years of service with the TSA. Rhoades noted that the passenger was uncertain when asked if the bag contained anything sharp, despite the distinct nature of the confiscated items.
The incident highlights the ongoing role of visual screening in identifying non-standard hazards in air travel. The passenger continued their journey after abandoning the blades, which were retained by airport security personnel.
Airport officials confirmed the operation was handled according to standard checkpoint protocols. No further details were released regarding the passenger or the specific airline involved in the travel.
