Fort Thomas Mourns Postal Worker Killed Oct. 15

Marchelle Bertram, who worked the front desk at the Fort Thomas Post Office for years, was struck and killed by a vehicle on Oct. 15 while walking on Memorial Parkway near her home in Bellevue. The collision happened earlier this month. Bertram died at the hospital after the crash.

Whitney Bertram, her daughter, said she rushed to the hospital after learning her mother had been hit. She said the injuries were such that survival was not possible. The driver remained at the scene, and Whitney Bertram believes the crash was an accident.

Bertram spent years at the front counter of the Fort Thomas Post Office, assisting people who came in. Those who visited the post office called her "the nice lady at the post office," her daughter said.

Whitney Bertram said she has received a large amount of support from the community since her mother's death. "There are so many people I don't know whose lives she's touched and affected," she said. She also said a woman at the post office began crying upon learning of Bertram's death. "If she could come back for a moment just to see what a reaction has come about because she's no longer with us, I think she'd be stunned," Whitney Bertram said.

Whitney Bertram said that hearing from others who miss her mother helps her through the loss. "You're never truly gone until you're forgotten about. It's good to hear other people reaching out and expressing how much they miss her, too," she said. "I miss her like crazy; I try not to think about it too hard because I'll break down."

The crash occurred on Oct. 15 on Memorial Parkway in Bellevue. Marchelle Bertram worked at the Fort Thomas Post Office.
