A Republican candidate for the Georgia state House was arrested on a felony charge of child molestation.
Cobb County authorities charged Andre Stafford with public indecency and child molestation following an incident on Oct. 15 in Smyrna. The arrest warrant states that a gray 2024 Kia Forte approached a girl walking to her bus stop. The driver exposed himself to the victim.
Police used Flock surveillance cameras to track the vehicle to Stafford. The victim later identified him in a photo lineup. Stafford is running for House District 42, a seat currently held by Democrat Gabriel Sanchez.
Stafford has appeared in photos with several prominent Georgia GOP officials. These include state Sen. Greg Dolezal, who is seeking the lieutenant governor nomination, and U.S. Rep. Barry Loundermilk. He also appeared with state Rep. Houston Gaines, who is challenging U.S. Rep. Mike Collins for a congressional seat.
U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff is also a candidate in the 2026 midterms. Collins described Stafford as a volunteer on his campaign this year. He called the charges sickening and said Stafford belongs in a list and behind bars if the facts are true.
Stafford’s representatives did not immediately comment. The general election is scheduled for Nov. 3.
