President Donald Trump will hold campaign events in Iowa and Kansas on Sunday. These stops are scheduled two days before the midterm elections on Tuesday.
The Republican Party confirmed that Trump will begin at the Five Flags Center in Dubuque, Iowa, at 2 p.m. Central time. He will then travel to the Salina, Kansas, regional airport for an 8 p. m. Central time rally.
Iowa and Kansas are critical for the Republican Party to maintain its Senate majority. A Marist poll indicates that Republican Representative Ashley Hinson trails Democrat Josh Turek by three points in Iowa. In Kansas, Democrat Adam Hamilton currently leads incumbent Republican Senator Roger Marshall by a narrow margin.
Trump has won Iowa in three previous elections and Kansas in two. He initially canceled these final visits but decided to proceed at the last minute.
House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana dismissed the polling data. He stated that he has observed voters on the ground and believes the polls are inaccurate. Johnson said the polls are underrepresenting Republicans.
Iowa last sent a Democrat to the Senate in 2008. Kansas last did so nearly a century ago. A Quinnipiac poll shows Trump’s approval rating at approximately 34 percent.
