The Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design hosted MFA Open Studios on Oct. 23. The event opened the graduate studios within the Arts & Humanities Building to the public.
Thirty-two graduate students participated in the exhibition. They welcomed visitors into their working spaces to view both finished pieces and work in progress. The display covered five floors of the building.
The collection included work from both graduate and undergraduate students. Disciplines represented were drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, sculpture, and photography. Visitors moved between studios to speak directly with artists about their materials, processes, and ideas.
Student clubs hosted additional sales and activations during the event. These activities allowed visitors to purchase work from emerging artists. The Exlucis Photo Club operated a Polaroid photobooth that drew large crowds.
The school described the event as a reflection of the rigor and breadth of practice in its studios. It positioned the gathering as a way for the campus and the city of Atlanta to observe the creative research occurring daily in the building.
