Bill Hader provides the voice for the title character in the new animated film 'The Cat in the Hat.' The production expands the 1957 Dr. Seuss book by adding a Taylor Swift song performed by the USC marching band.
The story begins with the Cat entering the home of a single mother and her two children. From there, the narrative moves into a separate world characterized by wonder and danger. Director Alessandro Carloni explained that the team used the original book as the first three minutes of the movie. He stated that the filmmakers then explored where the character would go next. The decision was to follow the Cat to discover that entertaining bored children on rainy days is his job.
Hader described the final film as genuinely funny and moving. He noted that the project offers an honest connection for audiences. America Ferrera, who is also involved in the production, said she was surprised by how the movie incorporated elements from the source material. She observed that the animation style changes depending on which world the characters inhabit. Ferrera called this visual shift delightful.
Quinta Brunson joined the cast because of the opportunity to work within the Dr. Seuss universe with a different approach. She expressed enthusiasm for the challenge of a new retelling of the classic story. The film includes humor aimed at adults alongside the content intended for children. This dual approach allows the movie to appeal to a wider audience.
Hader joked about the inclusion of the Taylor Swift song during a press event. He requested a nice table by the window at a restaurant in exchange for being in a movie with the track. He referred to himself as a cat in a balloon to emphasize the absurdity of the situation. The 2003 live action film starring Mike Myers remains a notable previous adaptation of the character.
