Nebraska outside hitter Harper Murray may be preparing for a final appearance in her home state as the No. 1 Husker volleyball team travels to Michigan this weekend. The team faces Michigan on Friday and Michigan State on Saturday, marking the beginning of a four-match stretch that includes their final regular-season road trips.
Murray enters the weekend on a strong note after a difficult start to non-conference play. She currently leads Nebraska with 3.50 kills per set and ranks among the top outside hitters nationally in passing metrics. The 2027 Big Ten schedule is expected to shift opponents and home sites, making a future visit to Michigan unlikely if she returns for a fifth season.
The Huskers are 21-0 overall and 10-0 in conference play. They will face Michigan at the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor at 5:30 p.m. Central Time on Friday. The game will air on B1G+ and the Huskers Radio Network. Michigan is 13-8 overall and 4-6 in the Big Ten.
Michigan head coach Erin Virtue is in her fourth season as the team's leader. Her team went 22-11 last season and reached the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to No. 1 Pittsburgh. The Wolverines lost key players to graduation, including outside hitter Allison Jacobs and middle blocker Serena Nyambio. Current standout Ella Demetrician leads the team with 351.5 points and averages 4.14 kills per set.
On Saturday, Nebraska travels to East Lansing to face Michigan State at the Breslin Center. The match is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Central Time. Michigan State is 17-3 overall and 7-3 in the Big Ten. The Spartans are considered the biggest threat to Nebraska in the conference standings after being predicted to finish 12th in the preseason.
Michigan State setter Malayah Long is a Lincoln native who averages 10.34 assists per set. She was named AVCA National Player of the Week on Oct. 6 after posting over 12 assists per set in wins against USC and UCLA. The Spartans also feature Canadian middle blocker Carmen Waye, who ranks top five in the conference with a .426 hitting percentage and 83 blocks.
Nebraska leads the all-time series against Michigan 26-3 and against Michigan State 30-2-2. The last matchup with Michigan occurred on Oct. 19, 2025, which Nebraska won 3-0. The last meeting with Michigan State was on Oct. 25, 2025, which Nebraska also won 3-0.
Michigan State head coach Kristen Kelsay is in her second season at the program. She holds a 35-15 record at the school and previously won an AVCA Thirty Under 30 Award. The Spartans have a balanced roster that includes transfer Alanna Bankston, who leads the team with over four points per set, and freshman Madi Andrews, who has recorded double-digit kills in five straight matches.
