PALMER, Alaska. Colony sophomore Bri Parrent has been named MaxPreps Alaska Flag Football Player of the Year after leading the nation in combined rushing and passing yards during the 2026 season. Parrent recorded 8,828 yards and 533 total points, playing quarterback, defensive back and kick returner for the Knights.
Her production helped Colony reach the program's first flag football state title game. The Knights lost the final, though Parrent threw for 234 yards and a touchdown and returned the opening kickoff for a score.
Parrent said the statewide recognition came as a surprise. "It's really cool," she said. "It's an honor. I've never really had something like that." She added that she does not feel added pressure from the award: "It's cool getting that recognition, and I understand it's a big part, but I'd say flag football is like a fun sport to me."
Parrent counts basketball as her primary sport but said the football season drew her in. "I like how competitive it is," she said. "It's such a fast-growing sport and it's getting bigger." She also noted the appeal of non-contact competition: "I just like how you can play like the boys but minus the tackles, but still as competitive. Or more competitive."
Flag football continues to expand at the high school level in Alaska. Parrent's 8,828-yard total came before any kick return yardage was added to the figure.
