Ukrainian officials positioned a humanitarian convoy in Armyansk on Thursday in preparation for an aid mission to the city of Oleshky scheduled for Friday. The vehicle group includes 25 buses, ambulances, and other transport units. Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's ombudsman and chief negotiator, stated that the primary objective is to distribute supplies to residents who have been cut off by conflict. He emphasized that the distribution would prioritize elderly citizens and individuals with disabilities.

Armyansk is located approximately 53 miles south of Oleshky in the Russian-occupied southern Kherson region. Lubinets described the operation as a direct effort to bring humanitarian relief to local populations. The mission operates under a localized ceasefire that has been in effect since Tuesday. This truce specifically covers the devastated area around Oleshky while the wider war continues.

The arrangement was negotiated by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump, who led discussions between Lubinets and Yana Lantratova, her Russian counterpart. This specific diplomatic effort secured the temporary halt in fighting necessary for the convoy's movement. Previous attempts to establish ceasefires in the region have often failed or collapsed quickly. The current truce represents a narrow window for aid delivery amidst ongoing hostilities.

Oleshky gained international attention earlier this month when heavy fighting and mined roads stranded its population. Residents reported depleting stocks of food and medicine as access routes became impassable. The city sits just inside Russian-controlled territory in the southern part of Ukraine. The conflict began with Russia's full-scale invasion more than four and a half years ago, and both sides remain actively engaged in the war outside the truce zone.

The convoy is set to move from its staging area in Armyansk toward Oleshky later on Friday. The operation relies on the continued observance of the ceasefire by both Moscow and Kyiv. Lubinets indicated that the focus remains on ensuring supplies reach every person in need within the city. No further details were provided regarding the specific types of goods being transported in the buses and ambulances.
