Sullivan Arena in Anchorage hosted 6,569 spectators on Saturday night, the largest crowd ever recorded for an NAHL hockey game at the venue. The Anchorage Wolverines capitalized on the energy to defeat the Kenai River Brown Bears 6-3. This victory marked the team's fourth consecutive win and their second straight over their in-state rivals.

The Wolverines scored five goals in the first period alone. Team captain Caleb Mahar added a goal in the third period. It was his second of the game and his third of the weekend. The crowd heard the arena's foghorn signal the team's record-breaking attendance milestone.

Prior to the weekend, the Wolverines had been building momentum in their regular season schedule. The previous week's results saw the team secure victories that set the stage for Saturday's record-setting game. The team is now looking to maintain this pace as the month of October concludes.

In college volleyball, the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves rebounded from a home loss to win two road matches. On Thursday, they upset nationally ranked Simon Fraser University in five sets. They followed that victory with a four-set win over Western Washington on Saturday.

UAA head coach Morgan Hooe noted the team's increased urgency. "We played with much more urgency out of the gate tonight and were able to get Western out of their comfort zone in the first two sets," Hooe said. Senior setter Hannah Trotter was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her performance. She recorded double-doubles in both matches, including 43 assists against Simon Fraser and 35 against Western Washington.

High school volleyball also saw intense competition. Reigning 4A state champion Dimond faced a top contender in visiting Colony on Tuesday. The Lynx won in five sets after losing the first two. Junior Anayah Sila and senior Ailafo Fautanu recorded double-doubles for Dimond, combining for 29 kills and 36 digs. Colony's Taylor Passard and Alli Morrissey combined for 35 kills and 43 digs.

Next week, the Anchorage Wolverines will host the Kenai River Brown Bears again at Sullivan Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m. The UAA volleyball team will play UAF at the Alaska Airlines Center on Friday at 7 p.m. Dimond volleyball will face South at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, closing out their regular season before postseason play begins.

The Cook Inlet Conference Swimming Championships are scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Bartlett. The 2026 high school football postseason will also begin with regional action across the state this week.
