Alaska Airlines will begin nonstop flights from Anchorage to Tokyo in May 2027.
The carrier announced the new route on Tuesday. It will be the airline's first direct service between Anchorage and Tokyo's Narita International Airport. Flights will run daily from May 13 through Sept. 8. Service will drop to three flights per week starting in January 2028.
Marilyn Romano, regional vice president at Alaska Airlines, said the route responds to long-standing requests. She noted the service will expand tourism and commerce opportunities while strengthening the airline's global network. The flights will operate on Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
Through Oct. 31, round-trip fares for travel between May 13 and June 7, 2027, will start at $999. Those prices are subject to availability. The airline also revealed three additional seasonal nonstop routes launching in 2027.
Anchorage will see weekly Saturday flights to Nashville, Tennessee, Austin, Texas, and Dallas-Fort Worth from June 12 through Aug. 7. The company stated these combined additions create the largest nonstop schedule from Alaska in its history.
Angie Spear, director of the Alaska International Airport System, issued a statement praising the airline's investment. She said the commitment expands air service for Alaskans and the communities they serve.
