A 10-year-old girl was rescued from a home in Oregon City, Oregon, on Wednesday afternoon after being taken from an apartment in Canby early in the morning. The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed that tactical teams located the child and transported her to a hospital.

The agency reported that officers found the girl tied up inside a closet. Vince Edgar Chavez, the suspect in the case, was arrested after attempting to flee from the rear of the residence. Investigators stated that a man entered the apartment at 1:39 a.m., injured a 12-year-old child, and removed the 10-year-old.

The 12-year-old was also rushed to the hospital and remained under treatment as of Wednesday afternoon. Canby Police Department officials said the parents are cooperating with the ongoing investigation into the incident.

Local residents questioned why an Amber Alert was not issued immediately after the child was taken. The Canby Police Department responded that the department had not yet collected the specific information required to activate an alert system.

Carus Elementary, where the abducted girl is enrolled, increased its police presence during the Wednesday afternoon dismissal. The school district stated this measure was taken out of an abundance of caution to support the students and staff.

The district expressed its support for the family and the school community. "Our hearts are with this child and her family," the school district said. "Please know that we are here to support our students, staff and families in whatever ways we can."
