A 10-year-old girl was rescued Wednesday afternoon from a home in Oregon City, Oregon, after being taken from an apartment in Canby earlier in the morning. U.S. Marshals Service tactical teams found the child tied up inside a closet. She was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators stated that a man entered the apartment at 1:39 a.m. He hurt a 12-year-old child and removed the 10-year-old. The 12-year-old was rushed to the hospital and remained under treatment as of Wednesday afternoon. The suspect, Vince Edgar Chavez, attempted to flee through the rear of the residence but was arrested by marshals.

Canby Police Department officials noted that they had not collected the specific information required to issue an Amber Alert. This decision prompted questions from the local community regarding the timing of the public notice. Police confirmed that the parents are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Carus Elementary, where the 10-year-old is enrolled, increased its police presence during the Wednesday afternoon dismissal. School officials described the added security as a precautionary measure. The school district issued a statement expressing support for the student, staff, and families involved.

The U.S. Marshals Service coordinated the rescue operation. The suspect is currently in custody. No further details regarding the condition of the children were provided at the time of reporting.
