Arch Manning returned to the Texas football lineup after treating a cut on his right hand. He helped lead the Longhorns to a 10-0 lead with a 13-play scoring drive against Mississippi State on Saturday.
The drive concluded with a 45-yard field goal by Gianni Spetic in the second quarter. Manning appeared bloodied after a 10-yard scramble that ended with a personal foul call on Mississippi State's Bralan Womack.
Referees sent Manning to the sideline where a trainer applied tape to his hand. He rejoined the field immediately. On his next two plays, he completed passes and rushed for a six-yard first down.
Earlier in the same drive, Manning lost his helmet after a hit from edge rusher Amaree Williams. Rules required him to leave the field for one play. Backup quarterback KJ Lacey handed the ball to Raleek Brown for that snap.
Manning finished the first half with 24 rushing yards. He also threw for 89 yards and a touchdown, completing seven of his ten attempts. Texas entered the halftime break with a 17-0 lead.
