East Lansing, Mich. (Gazette) - Five people were hospitalized after two separate shootings occurred near Michigan State University on Halloween night, according to East Lansing Police Chief Jennifer Brown.

Brown addressed the media on Sunday afternoon, confirming the department responded to four distinct calls, including the two gun violence incidents. The first shooting happened near the intersection of M.A.C. Avenue and Linden Street. Multiple shots were fired in that location, leading to three victims being transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Officials reported that two of the victims were in stable condition, while the status of the third individual was not immediately determined.

Later that night, officers responded to a second shooting in the area of Stoddard and Frye Avenues. Two additional people were shot in this incident. Both victims are currently listed in stable condition. Brown stated that multiple firearms were recovered from the scene, though authorities have not yet confirmed if they were the weapons used.

The chief noted that several individuals were taken into custody in connection with the violence. Police have not established whether the two shootings are related. It remains unclear if any of the victims are students at Michigan State University. A university spokesperson said the campus police assisted East Lansing officers. The spokesperson added that the criminal activity did not threaten the campus directly and did not occur on MSU property.

East Lansing Fire Department data shows 91 total incidents over a 24-hour period, including 75 incidents during Halloween night.
